How Often Should You Blog?

Blogging No Comments

Wondering how often you should post to your blog? It’s a good question! Here’s what I normally tell people when they ask me how often they should blog.

Post often enough to keep readers coming back for more while not often enough to cause burnout!

You want your customers and visitors to keep coming back to your web site. Some visitors will take more than one visit to your site before they’ll buy - so you need to give them a reason to come back.

Even if some of your visitors have already bought from you, brining them back will give you an opportunity to sell more to them.

Providing fresh and valuable content in a blog will help keep folks coming back to your web site. And each time they come back, you have an opportunity to capture more of their attention, build your credibility, and connect with them, and continue to sell to them.

From an SEO perspective, search engines love fresh content. The more often you update your web site (through your blog), the better. This will also keep the search engines coming back which will help improve your site’s value and rankings.

Despite the fact that blogging frequently is a good strategy (for visitors and search engines), I’d also suggest some unpredictability in posting frequency.

People are trainable! And if you’re in the habit of posting every day (and they like what you have to say), they will come back every day. But if for unknown reason, you’re unable to keep up that posting schedule, you may lose readers after not posting a few days.

Posting in often enough, but in an unpredictable manner, will still keep people coming (and search engines coming back for more), but will also help keep you from getting in a rigid posting schedule where you feel you have to post or lose readers.

You’ll also want to be careful not to post too infrequently. If you do, people are likely to lose interest. We live in a busy world, and if folks check your blog a few times and don’t find new content, they’re likely to stop checking and then forget about it.

So you do want to find a good balance between blogging often enough to provide a continuous stream of fresh content to keep your readers and search engines coming back for more, while maintaining a sense of unpredictability (and prevent burnout).

Why You Should Blog

Are you wondering if Blogging is really worth your time and effort? Maybe you heard it was a good strategy and source of income for the internet marketer … but you’re still not convinced blogs work.

I once shared those feelings (a long time ago). I was also concerned that I wouldn’t have enough to blog about. I knew that starting a blog and abandoning after running out of ideas wouldn’t look good (and would result in losing readers and potential customers)

And who’d be interested in what I had to say? Surely there are others out there who know a lot more than me!

But once I got over these fears and skepticism and started blogging … I had to look back and wondered why I waited so long (and wished I hadn’t).

From a business perspective, blogs serve many purposes. They can be used to …

  • Drive traffic to your web site (and sales pages)
  • Boost your search engine rankings for less competitive keywords
  • Add valuable content to your web site (content is king)
  • Increase internal links by linking to other relevant posts within your blog
  • Allow you communicate with your readers and potential customers
  • Increase income by incorporating affiliate links in your posts

Blogs have helped me so much that I’ve started adding blogs to all my web sites. Which brings me to my next point … to be really effective, blogs should be integrated with your web site. By that I mean, they should be hosted on your web’s server and should look and feel like the rest of your web site.

Not only will this give you more control and disk space for your blog, but it will make the transition between your blog and web site appear seamless (which will make your site easier to navigate for your visitors).

Blogs are easy quick and easy to set up. And you can get a blog for free with Blogger or Wordpress. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I’m use both and really like Wordpress, but find some things easier in Blogger.

When you blog, don’t forget to ping.

Benefits of Blogging

SEO, Blogging No Comments

The face of blogging has changed significantly over the last year or two. No longer are bloggers just teenagers or people wishing to voice their strong opinions on various topics. Today, blog are are a useful business tool.

Blogging can help the internet marketer achieve several goals including,

  • Boost search engine rankings
  • Drive more traffic to your web and sales page
  • Build a content rich site that brings your readers back for more
  • Build keyword rich pages
  • Increase inbound links to site as well as internal deep links
  • Allow you to interact with your visitors & customers
  • Increase profits

As you can see, there are a lot of great benefits to blogging. Let’s take a closer look at how they work.

In order to drive people to your web site or blog, you need to provide content their looking for. In order to figure out what information people are looking for, you need to do keyword research (otherwise, you’re just guessing).

Optimizing web pages for keywords works best if you limit a page to one or two keywords (otherwise search engines, and often people, have trouble determining what your page is really about).

So if you optimize each blog post for a keyword, not only will search engines understand that your post is about, you’ll be giving people exactly what they want (without watering it down).

Less competitive keywords will give you a great chance of ranking high in the search engines. The more pages you can get high rankings for, the better your overall ranking will be - and the higher your search engine ranking, the easier it will be for folks to find your site (which means more traffic).

The more quality inbound links you have to your site, the higher your Google Page Rank will be. The best way to get quality inbound links is to provide valuable content, so that others will want to link to it naturally.

The more inbound links you have, the more important your site is viewed. Again, these things lead to higher search engine rankings and therefore more traffic.

Blogs make it very easy to interact with your readers. You can ask them questions, solicit their feedback and respond through the comment system. You can also comment on other people’s blogs. These things help build your credibility as an expert in your field.

You can boost your income by driving people to your sales page or by incorporating affiliate links into your posts (as long as they’re relevant to the post).

Blogging is a valuable SEO tool today. It’s valuable in fact, that IMC has produced a course on blogging in order to help you get the most from it. It’s called, Blogging for Dollars and will show you how to set up a blog and use it to make money.

And I can tell you from personal experience - blogging works!
