Hire a Computer Programmer or Other Professional

Tools & Resources, How-To's No Comments

Ever wish you had access to a computer programmer or writer or some other professional? One of the toughest things about creating your own products is having the necessary skills and training to get the job done.

Even if you have the necessary skills and training, it’s sometimes difficult to find the time to do some of the more time consuming tasks, like writing an eBook, or building a software program, etc.

That’s where sites like Elance.com and RentaCoder.com come in handy. These sites bring people together. Now even the small business owner can afford to hire a computer programmer to do a job or a ghost writer to write your next eBook. The possibilities are endless.

The process is simple. You can post a job on the site and let others bid on it. This will give you an idea of how much a job will cost and who can do it. Once you come to an agreement with somebody, they do the job and you pay them.

Folks with time and skills can offer their services on the site for others. This is a great way to work from home. You can do research, write eBooks, graphics design, etc. The list goes on.

What is Mailloop?

Tools & Resources No Comments

With so many different internet marketing tools available today, it’s hard to understand what they all do and whether or not need them. One of the questions that I get asked frequently is, “What is Mailloop“?

In short, Mailloop is an autoresponder and email marketing software program. Do you need it? That depends.

Mailloop will let you set up an unlimited number of autoresponders or emails. It will even let you pre-set delivery dates (so you can easily set up a mini-course to be emailed every day or week, etc.). These are nice features - and very helpful for the internet marketer.

Internet marketers need to have the ability to keep in touch with their subscribers and customers easily (so automation is the way to go). You have two options for doing this - either subscribe monthly/annually to a service like aWeber or pay a one-time fee for a Mailloop and have unlimited capability (I prefer the second option).

Another thing Mailloop can also be setup to process your subscribers and customers email addresses (that is, save them to a file for you - so you don’t have to). Mailloop can be configured to add subscribers to one list, and customers to another list, etc. This makes it much easier for you handle your autoresponders and email marketing campaigns.

Being able to manage different email lists is a must for successful email marketing - and Mailloop makes this task very easy.

If you use eBook Pro, then I would say that NEED Mailloop. Why? Because with eBook Pro, you need a way to deliver usernames and passwords to customers and there’s currently only two ways to do it (for most people). The first is to use Mailloop (which makes this whole process very easy). The second is to sign up with 1ShoppingCart.com and let them handle this task for you.

Once again, Mailloop has the advantage of being a one-time expense (as opposed to an ongoing monthly one).

The only downside to Mailloop, is that it needs to be installed on a computer that is up and running 24/7. For folks working out of a home office, this usually isn’t a problem. But for those trying to run a business on a laptop - it can be (in which case, signing up for 1ShoppingCart’s services is probably the way to go for these folks).

I personally use Mailloop for all the reasons mentioned above. I started out on aWeber and liked the service - but after doing the math, figured out Mailloop was the better option for me (especially since also use eBook Pro).

Web Directories

Looking for an easy way to submit your web site to directories? Check out Directory Critic! This directory is the grand-daddy of all web directories! It contains a list of all other web directories.

While automatic submission software or services may be tempting - it’s better for your SEO if you don’t use them. If you do, your site will instantly be added to hundreds of directories and search engines overnight - and that raises red flags (since it’s not a natural way to get noticed).

The better way to go is to manually submit your site to directories (not search engines) little by little over time. If you submit to 4 or 5 sites per week, the job is much easier and avoids raising red flags with Google and other search engines.

And thanks to directory critic, submitting to 4 or 5 web directories a week is a lot easier than having to go out and find directories on your own!

Ping-o-Matic - A Blog’s Best Friend!

Tools & Resources No Comments

Ping-o-matic is web service that helps you let feed readers know that your blog has been updated.

When you “ping” your site, an automated program is sent to your site to collect new content and post it to RSS syndication networks.

Ping-o-matic is a web service that automates this process for you. All you need to do is go to the site, enter your blog title, the URL to your site, and the URL to your RSS feed. Then click the services you’d like to ping and send the pings.

After using Ping-o-matic the first time, you can bookmark the page so that you don’t have to enter the information again (which is really nice).

When should you ping? After every new blog post!

RSS Feeds Explained

Tools & Resources No Comments

RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication“. It’s only been around a few years (as we know it today) but it continues to gain in popularity. Have you ever visited MSN, Yahoo, etc. and noticed the links to news and story headlines? Those are RSS links.

In short, RSS allows for the easy syndication of frequently updated material (news, blogs, web sites, etc.). A “Feed Aggregator” is a program that reads RSS feeds.

Today, many sites let you customize your own home page (like Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc.) and these sites have RSS Feed Aggregators built into them. When you subscribe to a feed, you can have the new content added directly to your home page.

The whole idea behind this technology is to help users get the information they want (and dump the stuff they don’t). You no longer are stuck reading news and stories from sources you don’t like or trust. Now you can subscribe to the sites you do like and trust. Likewise, you can have news, weather, sports and other information customized to your local area.

From a business perspective …. RSS allows you to stay connected to your web visitors and customers by making it easy for them to keep up to date on your site, products, and other relevant information. This keeps them coming back for more!

Here’s another example, I have a blog about trout fishing. On that blog I have an RSS feed built in to it which people can subscribe to (for free). With the click of a button, people can add my blog to their Yahoo, AOL, Google, etc. home pages.

By subscribing to that feed, they will be able to keep up to date on any new postings I make to the blog. How? On their home page, will be a link to my most recent posts.

The really cool thing about RSS is that every time I write a post, it is automatically sent out to across the globe to those folks who subscribed to it. RSS turns the small site into a huge syndicated site!

I don’t have to do a thing - the software does it all.

Okay, so that’s not completely true. I still do need to “ping” the feed. In other words, after writing a new post, I send out a ping (with the push of a button) which automatically lets RSS Readers know that I have new material for them.

I use a web site called, Ping-o-matic for this task.
